Charlton Athletic snap up Arsenal youngster

Charlton Athletic have signed Stephy Mavididi on loan from Arsenal for the rest of the season as confirmed by the club website.

The 19-year-old striker will be familiar to many Charlton fans as he had a loan spell at the club last year where he would make five appearances. But now he will make a return to The Valley where he’ll hope to make a bigger impact now that he’s tied to a deal that will keep him there until the end of the season.

While he is yet to make a senior appearance for Arsenal, he did have another loan spell since the last time he was at Charlton. He had a chance to impress in the Sky Bet Championship when he moved on loan to Preston North End, where he would end up making ten appearances before both the Lilywhites and Arsenal decided to end the loan early.

After the signing was completed Charlton head coach Karl Robinson said: “I am really looking forward to working with Stephy again. He is such a talented player and we only got to see a glimpse of what he could do last time he was here.2

“I’ve watched him a lot since he’s come back from injury and he is a phenomenal talent. I don’t think it is any secret that we wanted to bring him in over the summer.”

“The fans will have seen how quick, powerful and skilful he is from his first spell with us. He is a Championship quality player already and he comes to Charlton now with a point to prove.”
