QPR winger departs for France

QPR winger Yeni Ngbakoto has signed for French Ligue 1 side Guingamp for an undisclosed fee.

25-year-old Ngbakoto joined the R’s last summer and scored on his debut against Swindon Town in the first round of the Carabao Cup, the Democratic Republic of Congo nternational went on to make 28 appearances last season where he scored four times.

He won the London side’s Goal of the Season award last term for his stunning free-kick in the 4-1 win over Birmingham City at St Andrews back in February 2017. This season Ngbakoto has struggled to hold a first-team place and has added just eight further appearances to his tally during an 18-month stay at Loftus Road.

Ngbakoto moved to QPR from French side FC Metz. The young winger spent seven seasons with the French side, after progressing through their youth team, playing an influential role in the side’s double successive promotion from the National to Ligue 2 then Ligue 1.

Overall the youngster made 185 appearances in all competitions for FC Metz, scoring 44 times.

Speaking before the January transfer window opened, the Guingamp president Bertrand Desplat confirmed his interest to French publication Ouest-France, saying: “We know him, and he is indeed a good player, even if there are plenty of other good players out there”.

QPR currently sit 17th in the Sky Bet Championship, six points above the relegation zone, and Ian Holloway’s side take a break from League action as they host Milton Keynes Dons on Saturday 6th January in the Emirates FA Cup.
