Derby County, Sheffield United, Aston Villa and Leeds United want Middlesbrough midfielder

Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton will be a man in demand this transfer window, according to the Yorkshire Post.

Championship clubs such as Aston Villa, Leeds United, Derby County, Sheffield United and Sunderland are all being linked with the central midfielder.

Adam Clayton, formerly of Huddersfield Town an Leeds United, has fallen down the pecking order at Middlesbrough this season and could be allowed to leave the North-East club for the right price in January.

Tony Pulis may be looking to cash in on Clayton to enable him to pursue some of his transfer targets

An experienced Championship midfielder like Clayton will not come cheap for the clubs who are looking to sign him.

Sheffield United were the first team who were linked with him a couple of weeks ago. They have also been trying to sign Southend United midfielder Ryan Leonard but may have to look elsewhere.

Aston Villa and Derby County are another two clubs being linked. They are both looking to add some players in January to bolster their squads as they aim for promotion.

Leeds, on the other hand, have also had Clayton at their club and Thomas Christiansen may try to bring him back to Elland Road.

And finally Sunderland will be targeting a move for Clayton but could be at a disadvantage to the other clubs who want him too because of their current league position.

There are some big clubs after Clayton and he will not be short of options. It will be interesting to see where he ends up.
