Sunderland’s miserable home form has continued with The Black Cats falling to a potentially damaging 1-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Barnsley at The Stadium of Light.
The Tykes defender Ethan Pinnock netted the only goal of the match early in the second half to heap further misery on Sunderland’s long-suffering fans.
The result leaves Chris Coleman’s men second bottom of the Sky Bet Championship table and two points from safety. After the match Sunderland fans took to Twitter to give their views both on the match and the situation on Wearside.
I hate missing games, but today sounds like another shocker, & there's been enough this season. The present squad is just not good enough #safc

How Honeyman, Love and Vaughan are "professional" footballers I'll never know. #SAFC

If they don’t strengthen in January it’s curtains. If they don’t improve at home it’s curtains. The business we do this month will dictate what league we are playing in next season #safc

I would call that performance as simply rotton #safc… Simply not good enough to stop in that league

Surely Coleman will be given funds to spend now. Bain / Short must be able to see that these players have relegation written all over them! #safc

Another home game, another loss… Hope for 2018 off to a bad but expected start. 😞 #SAFC

Today’s game was pivotal. It was a chance to stamp authority on the lower reaches of the table and set the momentum for the rest of the season. In typical Sunderland style they messed it up… Get the chequebook out Ellis. #SAFC

That is the most inept, tactically clueless, one-paced, gutless #SAFC team I have ever seen. And I've seen a few.

Now that was just awful – players simply not prepared to take responsibility and just not up for a fight. CC has a massive task on his hands #SAFC
