PREVIEW: Stevenage look to bounce back after back to back defeats

Stevenage will be looking to start 2018 with a bang after back to back defeats over the festive period.

Darren Sarll’s side sit in 17th and although they may not be at risk of relegation, they appear to be falling further behind the chasing pack.

Cheltenham are in a similar position to Stevenage but lie in 15th with their relegation worries seemingly decreasing by the week.

Stevenage come into the game on the run of successive defeats. A 3-0 loss to a confident Lincoln City side on Boxing Day as well as a loss to strugglers Crawley Town have them looking over their shoulder.

Crawley’s Dutch superstar Enzio Boldewijn was on the score sheet once again as his goal proved to be the only significant one on Saturday.

Cheltenham were held at home by play-off chasing Newport County but they had to come from behind to get something out of the game.

Irishman Padraig Amond steered the visitors in front but Robins’ top scorer Mohamed Eisa was on hand to slot the ball into the opposing net to secure another point.

Gary Johnson’s side had the better opportunities after drawing level but were unable to beat the Exiles goalkeeper for a second time.

The two sides met at Whaddon Road earlier in the season with Stevenage claiming all of the points on a cold September Saturday.

Joe Martin’s 82nd minute winner was the only difference between the two sides as both looked happy to settle for the point.
