PREVIEW: Chesterfield looking to ruin Colchester’s play-off push

Jack Lester’s Chesterfield will be looking to get themselves out of trouble this weekend as they face high flying Colchester United.

Chesterfield are currently sat in the bottom two of SkyBet League Two having accumulated 20 points so far this season. Their visitors this weekend are Colchester United who recently sprung into the play-offs and sit in 5th place.

Chesterfield come into the game in abysmal form having lost their last three games. Defeats to Wycombe Wanderers, Stevenage and fellow strugglers Crewe Alexandra have left Lester’s side in real trouble.

Chris Porter and Charlie Kirk both scored for Crewe as they made sure that Chesterfield fans would not be getting three points for Christmas.

Chesterfield will be without Robbier Weir who was substituted just 36 minutes into their Boxing Day fixture with Crewe. Lester also expects to be without captain Ian Evatt, Laurence Maguire, Bradley Barry, Joe Anyon, Jordan Sinnott and Gozie Ugwu as they look to turn their form around.

Colchester were able to record another win on Boxing Day that lifted them into the play-off spots.

Goals from Mikael Mandron and top scorer Sammie Szmodics saw them comfortably see off Crawley Town and secure the points.

Defender Kane Vincent-Young has recently been nursing a knee injury and could be back in contention for the fixture. Both Kyel Reid and Kurtis Guthrie look set to feature at some stage this weekend.

The pair met back in September where the spoils were shared at the Colchester Community Stadium. Louis Reed had given the visitors a first half lead but that was cancelled out by a first league goal for Brandon Hanlan.
