Mark Warburton warns Liam Bridcutt to cut down on needless bookings

Nottingham Forest head coach Mark Warburton has told the Nottingham Post that Liam Bridcutt needs to cut down on his needless bookings.

Bridcutt has been one of Forest’s better players over the season, earning many fans due to the fact he is willing to get stuck in. But while this is a positive for many, it is also starting to become a negative. He has already picked up nine bookings this season and one more will land him with a two match suspension, something Forest don’t need considering they are some way off the Sky Bet Championship play-offs.

And while Warburton likes the way Bridcutt is willing to get involved with matches and wouldn’t want to remove that part of his game, he has said that the former Leeds United midfielder needs to be smarter and avoid getting so many bookings which will land him with even more suspensions.

He said: “It is a fine margin. I think Liam will be the first to say that some of his bookings have been cheap.”

“They are the ones you want to avoid.”

“But when you are on four bookings or nine bookings, that is something you tend to be more careful about.”

“When you are on two bookings or six bookings, you are not quite so careful.”

“You have to recognise the implications of a challenge. Some of them have been cheap and some of them have certainly been harsh on Liam as well.”

Bridcutt will hope to avoid to get another booking when they face Sunderland on Saturday.
