Cardiff City table stunning €7 million bid for Besiktas midfielder

Championship side Cardiff City have apparently made a €7 million bid for Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup, according to Sport Witness.

The Turkey international is the captain of Besiktas but his contract expires in the summer meaning they could sell him for a fee in January to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Premier League side Everton have also been linked with him and the news that Cardiff have made a bid is somewhat of a shock. It is believed that Ozyakup would prefer a move to the top flight over the Championship. However, with the Bluebirds battling for promotion this season, could Neil Warnock persuade him to move to Wales?

The 25 year-old midfielder has played in England before for Arsenal. He started his career with AZ Alkmaar before joining Arsenal in 2008. However, his chances were hard to come by as a youngster with the Gunners and he moved to Besiktas in 2012 and has not looked back since.

He has played over 150 games for the Turkish giants and has played 30 games for Turkey. Although Cardiff have apparently tabled a bid of €7 million, they probably rate him higher than that.

This has got to be one of the strangest rumours so far on the run up to January. It would be some statement of intent if Cardiff can pull off the signing of Ozyacup. However, although Warnock vowed to appeal for some spending money from their owner Vincent Tan in January, this transfer fee may be taking it too far. You never know in football though.
