Lincoln City boss Cowley unfazed by criticism

Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley said he and his side don’t care about the criticism they receive, as long as they win games.

Cowley and his side have come under some harsh criticism during the festive period with Stevenage manager Darren Sarll criticising the way the Imps had played during their 3-0 loss at Sincil Bank:

“I think probably every supporter here for Stevenage would concur when I say that it was absolutely madness the way the game and performance was in control, and the manner in which the set-plays and penalty came about. It was madness, absolutely madness.

“You give a foul away in the final third against Lincoln and they have got a million and one set-plays. The penalty again comes from giving a silly set-play away.”

During the build-up to the Imp’s 0-0 draw away at fellow play-off chasing Newport County, Exiles wide midfielder Robbie Willmott spoke of the Imps’ “horrible playing style”:

“To be honest, they are a horrible team. They’re very direct. Some teams call us direct but that’s a different kind of direct.

“I think everyone has played against Matt Rhead at this level and knows what he possesses in the air.

“I saw them on television a lot last season and they are direct, and I think that’s what we’re going to have to deal with.”

However, despite the criticism in recent weeks, Cowley remains unfazed as the Imps look to climb the SkyBet League Two table once again:

“We’re happy to get criticism from opposing teams whether it’s their players or their manager because normally it comes off the back of you winning.

“We believe in what we’re doing, we’re a really hard working group and we understand where our flaws are and we try to work on them every day.

“We want to focus on us and how we’re doing, not what other people think of us.”
