Leeds United former midfielder linked with transfer return rumour – “horses mouth”

January 1st is approaching, football fans waiting for the opening of the winter transfer window.

Over the duration of the two-month summer window, Leeds brought in 16 players with Hamburg’s Pierre-Michel Lasogga being the last man in.

The Whites have started early for January, arranging the signing of Japan star Yosuke Ideguchi  – who’ll be immediately loaned out as he’ll not meet work permit criteria.

There’s the usual rumours starting to bubble and brew, many that aren’t possessed with anything of a degree of conjecture. However, here’s one that it transpires has come from the player himself – apparently.

A statement like this, from Boro fan and Yorkshire Post cartoonist would be open to ridicule, and in fairness that’s what the initial reaction to the news that former midfielder Adam Clayton was linked with a return to the club.

With Bandeira stating “don’t rule it out he said,” there is a certain sense of providence added to the claim. However, as can be seen below, not all Leeds United fans are convinced that there’s anything in the claim.

There can be no greater providence than a claim coming from the player themself – the proverbial “horses [sic] mouth.” Now, it cannot be said that Clayton is arriving at Elland Road, but it does appear that, at least, the Middlesbrough midfielder isn’t ruling out an arrival back in West Yorkshire.

Clayton had a 50-game tenure at Leeds after signing for the Whites from Manchester City. In this time he scored six goals and seven assists, before an eventual move to Huddersfield Town, then on to Middlesbrough.

According to Bandeira’s relaying of Adam Clayton’s affirmation that nothing can be ruled out, maybe Leeds United fans might prepare themselves for a return of a former native.
