Black Cats set to launch an ambitious move for Owls striker

Sky Bet Championship strugglers Sunderland are set to launch an ambitious bid to sign Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes during next month’s transfer window according to the Sunday Mirror.

The Black Cats have dropped back into the relegation zone after only drawing 1-1 with fellow basement boys Birmingham City at The Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon.

Chris Coleman’s men have struggled to find the back of the net on a regular basis this season and it has now been reported that the Wearside club could make an ambitious bid to sign striker Jordan Rhodes from league rivals Sheffield Wednesday in the upcoming transfer window.

The 27-year-old Oldham born hotshot was only named as a substitute as The Owls were beaten 2-1 by Middlesbrough at Hillsborough on Saturday and the player’s long term future in South Yorkshire is uncertain, particularly with Wednesday currently looking for a new boss.

With Sunderland currently in something of a financial crisis, any move for Rhodes is likely to be to sign the player on a temporary basis. Sheffield Wednesday paid around £10 million to land the frontman from Middlesbrough in the summer and The Black Cats will not be able to offer a similar transfer fee.

Since originally joining The Owls on loan in January, Rhodes has scored eight goals in 41 appearances for the club and is yet to make a real impact at Hillsborough.
