Leeds United’s summer chase and capture of Spanish attacking forward Samu Saiz was one of the 16 signings that the Whites made over the summer window.
He’s become a vital cog in the Leeds United machine so far this campaign. To press the tricky and diminutive Spaniard has an even five goals and five assists in his 20 appearances for the Whites. Not only that but much of Leeds’ good work comes through him, his play often magisterial in nature.
Fans have been more than impressed with his general play and the way that he doesn’t only bring others in to play but also the threat that he possesses in front of goal. It is this all-round aspect of his play that has enamoured Leeds fans to the former Huesca player who once turned out for Real Madrid’s youth set-up.
Such is his influence in Leeds’ style of play that fans have reacted with a sense of dismay when it was announced ahead of kick-off against Hull City that he wouldn’t feature due to a calf strain.
No Samuel Saiz for Leeds. Calf strain. #lufc

With an announcement such as that, it was obvious that Leeds United fans would have an opinion on the Spanish maestro’s absence.
Leeds United fans comment on Samu Saiz absence – not a sense of merriness
First up is Leeds United fan Ashleigh. Her thoughts are pretty clear on the matter.
Christmas. Ruined.

This spoiling of Christmas is a theme that Leeds United fans seem to have seized upon.

With Saiz out, many Leeds United fans are quietly confident in his replacement and fellow Spaniard Pablo Hernández.

Away from Phil Hay’s tweet, many Leeds United fans had their own thoughts on Saiz’s absence.

Saiz will be a massive loss today. Hope Hernandez can come in and do a job

As it was, Saiz’s replacement and fellow Spaniard Pablo Hernández did step up to the plate with the opening goal – a delicate chip and a sublime piece of skill that saw the Whites head in to the break 1-0 up.
