Chris Wilder admits Sheffield United need more signings

Sheffield United head coach Chris Wilder has admitted to Sky Sports that they need to make more signings in the January transfer window.

The Blades got off to a brilliant start as they made returning to the Sky Bet Championship look easy. They have been challenging for promotion for the first few months of the season but recent weeks have seen their form start to dip, which has seen them fall to 6th in the table.

While the panic button has definitely not been pressed yet, Wilder is acutely aware of the problems currently facing his side and that he needs to act quickly to make sure this dip in form doesn’t become a rot. And so he has said to the press that he is very keen on signing some new players in the January transfer window to cover the current holes in his side and to make sure their promotion push is maintained until the end of the season.

He said: We do need strengthening,”

“I’ve been given a budget to try and get the best out of and that’s always decided by the owners and whatever I get I try to get the maximum out of it.”

“I look at our team and no disrespect; I’ve got a cover left-back playing central midfield last week and I’ve got a 17-year-old kid making his full debut in the Championship and it’s a tough division,”

“There’s no hiding place in this league so we have to be as strong as we possibly can and recruit in the best possible way to give ourselves an opportunity of winning games. You look at other squads and groups of players and there some powerful, big teams and a lot of good players on show.”
