PREVIEW: Coventry take on high-flying Chairboys

Coventry City play host to high-flying Wycombe Wanderers on Friday night with both clubs looking to gather momentum ahead of a busy Christmas period.

Both sides currently find themselves in the play-off positions with the away side placed in 4th, a win at the Ricoh Arena would lift Gareth Ainsworth’s men into the automatic places.

Coventry occupy the last play-off place, with an array of teams within touching distance of the sky blues.

Mark Robins’ side go into the game in rather inconsistent form having won, drawn and lost in their last three in SkyBet League Two.

A 2-1 win at home to Cheltenham Town with goals from Tom Bayliss and Marc McNulty saw City fly back into the play-off positions.

Rod McDonald is expected to return to the starting 11 after picking up a shoulder injury during the victory against Cheltenham.

The Chairboys come into this game in excellent form, having accumulated 7 points from their last 9 in the league.

The last of which coming at home to relegation threatened Chesterfield after Luke O’Nein’s second half winner gave the hosts all three points.

Former Nottingham Forest striker Nathan Tyson could well be in contention having played crucial minutes in last weeks win against the Spireites.

Despite the division difference last season, the pair met twice in the Checkatrade Trophy, with Coventry coming out on top twice.

A 4-2 win the the group stages a long with a 2-1 victory in the semi-finals to send Coventry to Wembley for the final, which they went onto win.
