NEWS: Bristol City eye move for star Preston striker

Bristol City are interested in a January move for Preston North End striker Jordan Hugill, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Nixon claims that Bristol City are looking to spend big money on a new striker in January, and that Hugill is the primary target.

The Robins currently sit in 3rd place in the Championship and are looking to beef up their attacking options in order to maintain their promotion charge.

Hugill is currently the club’s top scorer this season, with nine goals in all competitions. He is a key player for North End and a deal to a fellow Championship rival will not come cheap.

The 25-year-old reportedly handed in a transfer request in the summer in order to force a move away from Deepdale, but Preston rejected all bids for the striker.

Wolves, Leeds United and Reading were all linked with summer moves for Hugill, and with a deal agreed to sign Motherwell striker Louis Moult in January, his wish may now be granted.

Hugill began his professional career at Port Vale, after spells at numerous Non-League sides, most notably Whitby Town. Before making an appearance for the first team, he was loaned out to Conference side Gateshead. He scored 5 goals in 7 games, in what was a break through loan spell for Hugill.

Shortly after his return to Vale, he made his first appearance in a 3-0 victory over Crawley. He went on to play 20 times for the Valiants, scoring 4 goals.

His impressive performances earned him a move to Preston in 2014. Before establishing himself in the North End first team, he had loan spells at Tranmere and Hartlepool.

It was last season where Hugill really made a name for himself. He scored 13 goals in the Championship last season, making him one of the most sought after strikers in the league.

If Bristol City were to complete a deal for Hugill it could be key to maintaining their promotion push in the second half of the season.
