Liverpool keeper rejects the chance to join Sunderland

Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward has rejected the opportunity to join Sky Bet Championship strugglers Sunderland on loan according to The Express.

The 24-year-old Wrexham born stopper knows new Black Cats boss Chris Coleman well from his time with the Wales international squad and it has been reported that he was wanted for a reunion at The Stadium of Light.

It has now been revealed that Ward has rejected the opportunity to join Sunderland on a season-long loan deal. The club’s lowly league position is thought to be one of the contributing factors towards the player’s decision to remain on Merseyside for the time being.

Sunderland boss Coleman is looking for a new goalkeeper after being left unimpressed by both Jason Steele and  Robbin Ruiter. The club have conceded close to two goals per game on average this season and the goalkeeping department is one which the Welshman is believed to want to strengthen.

Liverpool keeper Ward joined the club from hometown club Wrexham in January 2012 in a reported £100,000 deal. The player has made just three senior appearances for The Reds and looks unlikely to be handed further opportunities to impress any time soon.

The keeper has been loaned out to both Morecambe and Aberdeen while last season, a loan spell at Huddersfield Town saw Ward help the West Yorkshire club to an unlikely promotion to the English Premier League.
