Bristol City on the verge of signing Toffees midfielder

Sky Bet Championship promotion hopefuls Bristol City are thought to be closing in on a deal to sign young Everton midfielder Liam Walsh according to The Sun.

The 20-year-old midfielder has impressed for The Toffees and both under-18 and under-23 levels while the player has spent time on loan with Bristol City’s league rivals Birmingham City during the first half of this season.

It has now been reported that The Robins are ready to pay around £1 million to sign the player in January and the club are hopeful that a deal can be struck with Everton. Competition for places in the starting XI at Goodison Park is high and Walsh is far from assured senior involvement at the Merseyside club under new boss Sam Allardyce.

Walsh has made a small number of appearances for loan club Birmingham City this season but is yet to make his senior debut for parent club Everton. The midfielder was given 17 first team outings for Sky Bet League Two club Yeovil Town during a loan spell with The Glovers during the second half of the 2015/2016 campaign and the youngster scored his first professional goal in a 1-1 draw at Luton Town.

Bristol City boss Johnson and his scouting network are thought to have been keeping a close eye upon Walsh’s growth in recent months and the club may feel that signing the inexperienced youngster is a risk worth taking.
