5 League 1 players who could step up to the Championship

Midfielder

Romain Vincelot (Leyton Orient)

Vincelot made his name at Dagenham and Redbridge helping the club achieve promotion to League One for the first time in their history via the play-offs. Vincelot scored 13 goals in 54 appearances for the Daggers before moving on to Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion. For one reason or another it didn’t work out for the French-man at the ‘AMEX’ Stadium and his contract was terminated in January 2013. He signed for Leyton Orient on a short term deal and during this time he impressed Russell Slade enough to reward him with a three-year contract. Vincelot was in sensational form in the middle of the park for Orient in 2013-14 and helped them reach the League One play-off final which they lost on penalties to Rotherham United.

Vincelot is a Championship player all day long and posseses everything a midfielder needs to play there. Not only is he an accomplished tackler but also he is an excellent passer of the ball. He’s proven to be a key link between the Orient defence and attack. He is also a very clever player to and is well adapted to the dark arts of the game regularly drawing fouls to win vital set pieces for his side which either break up play or create a goal scoring opportunity.

Interest in Vincelot’s services have been in high demand, in June Sky Sports reported that a host of Championship clubs including Leeds United and London-rivals Brentford were looking to tempt him away from the Matchroom Stadium. Vincelot should be playing in the Championship and there is no reason why he can’t help Leyton Orient end their long wait for Championship football this season.
