NEWS: Bolton Wanderers keen on re-signing former star

Bolton Wanderers are reportedly keen on re-signing their former star Zach Clough on loan from Nottingham Forest, according to the Daily Mirror, via Sporting Life.

Clough only joined Forest from Bolton in January this year, signing a four and a half-year deal for a fee rumoured to be around £3m.

After impressing at Bolton since his breakthrough into the first team, Clough was seen as a marquee signing for Forest but has struggled for regular game time this season.

The 22-year-old has found himself down the pecking order at Forest. The likes of Kieran Dowell, Barrie McKay, Ben Brereton and Jason Cummings all appear to be ahead of Clough at the moment. A loan move away could help him re-find the form which earned him his big money move to Forest.

Clough first broke on to the scene as a nineteen year old in a third round FA Cup tie against Wigan Athletic. He scored the winner in a 1-0 win, with then manager Neil Lennon describing him as a ‘special player.’

He was also a scorer on his league debut for Wanderers. Clough bagged a brace in a 2-2 draw against Wolves, and went onto score six goals in his first nine professional league games before a shoulder injury cut his season short.

That season, Bolton were relegated to League One but managed to retain the services of the youngster in the summer. Clough continued where he left off, scoring 9 goals in 23 appearances before his January departure.

Since his move, he has played 23 times for Forest, scoring 4 goals. However, Clough has yet to get off the mark this season, with the majority of his appearances coming from the bench.

Bolton currently find themselves in the middle of a relegation fight, and the signing of Clough could be the difference between staying up or an immediate return to League One.
