Derby County leading race to sign Bolton Wanderers midfielder

Derby County are leading the race to sign Bolton Wanderers’ Josh Vela according to a report from journalist Alan Nixon.

While Bolton have struggled since their return to the Sky Bet Championship, they have managed to climb out of the relegation though recently and are now in 21st place, Vela has been impressive. He has been consistent in being a great player for Bolton even when they got relegated in 2016 but with the Lancashire club potentially falling back into Sky Bet League One again, he may be set to leave the club in January.

Several teams are interested in signing Vela as you’d expect considering how well he has done for Bolton. But the team most likely to sign him are Derby County, with this report suggesting they are leading the race to snap him up. The Rams have been doing very well this season and are currently 4th in the Championship but are wanting some extra quality to try and get themselves into the automatic promotion zone. And now they are looking to get Vela signed to provide some extra competition in the centre of midfield.

Should Vela decide to leave Bolton, it would be a big move for him. He came through the Bolton academy and his only time away from the Macron Stadium was a short loan spell with Notts County back in 2014. And so leaving Lancashire would be a massive step for the 23-year-old midfielder but it may be a necessary one if he wants to become a better player.
