Aston Villa striker challenged to win a new deal

Experienced Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has been challenged by manager Steve Bruce to win himself a new deal at Villa Park according to the Daily Star.

The 31-year-old Birmingham born forward is out of contract at the end of the season and his future is uncertain with Agbonlahor having made just four appearances for Villa this term in which he has contributed one goal.

Agbonlahor’s lack of match action is largely down to injuries with the striker having been sidelined by a calf problem however the player is closing in on a first team return and Villa boss Bruce has tasked the former England international with earning himself a contract extension.

Bruce gave Agbonlahor another chance at Villa Park after his Villa career looked to have come to an end following some previous behavioural problems. It has been reported that the player has been a model professional since Bruce’s arrival at the club and Agbonlahor is making a positive impact both on and off the pitch.

Since making his first team return in October 2016, Agbonlahor has made 18 appearances for Villa in which he has scored two goals.

Agbonlahor is very much Mr Aston Villa. The frontman is a product of the Sky Bet Championship club’s academy system and he has spent well over a decade with the claret and blues.
