Former Wolves boss Walter Zenga lands surprise Italian Serie A job

Former Wolves manager Walter Zenga has been appointed manager of Serie A side Crotone.

It is his first managerial role since being sacked by Wolves 13 months ago. He takes charge of Crotone who are currently 16th in Serie A.

He has joined the Italian side on a contract until the end of the season and will take charge of them for the first time this weekend against Sassualo.

Zenga was appointed Wolves manager in the summer of 2016. There was a lot of anticipation amongst the Wolves faithful when he took charge. However, his first job in England did not work out. He was sacked last October after just 4 wins out of a possible 14.

Zenga, 57, was a goalkeeper during his playing days and played for the likes of Inter Milan and Sampdoria. He is a very experienced manager and has managed over 15 clubs in his time, including New England Revolution, Red Star Belgrade, Al-Ain, Al Jazira and Sampdoria.

Throughout his managerial career Zenga has not stayed at a club for longer than two seasons. You would hope that if he can keep Crotone up in the Serie A this year that they can extend his contract and he can find a permanent home.

Life after Walter Zenga has been good for Wolves. As series of huge signings, such as Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota, have made them one of the best clubs in the division and they look like genuine Championship title contenders this season under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
