Aston Villa are considering a January move for Sheffield United striker Leon Clarke, as per a report by the Birmingham Mail.
Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia has been ruled out for up to four months with an ankle injury which has left Steve Bruce wanting a new striker and he sees Sheffield United striker Leon Clarke as a potential target.
The 32 year-old striker has been in red hot form for the Blades this season, scoring 12 goals in the 15 matches he has played. He is the leading scorer in the Championship. He has been a key part of the Sheffield United squad who have made an unbelievable start to the season under Chris Wilder.
Clarke’s goals have fired the Blades to third in the table and have left fans dreaming of a return to the Premier League. He has formed a great strike partnership with Billy Sharp and they will not want to lose him in January.
Aston Villa made a slow start to the season but have turned it around under Steve Bruce. They will be looking for some firepower in January as they look to go for promotion and bolster their ranks for the rest of the campaign. The signing of Leon Clarke from a promotion rival would be a huge statement of intent by Villa.
Clarke is a vastly experienced striker in the Football League and has really found his feet in the Championship this season. Sheffield United fans will be hoping they can hold onto their top scorer and see off interest in him from Aston Villa in the January transfer window.
