Benin forward ready for Boro return at Bristol City

Middlesbrough forward Rudy Gestede is likely be available for selection when the Teessiders take on Bristol City at Ashton Gate in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday.

The 29-year-old Benin international hotshot has not featured for Boro since appearing in a goalless draw with Preston North End at The Riverside Stadium in August.

Gestede has been sidelined with a thigh injury which needed surgery but the club have now reported that the player enjoyed a 90-minute outing for the Development Squad in a 3-3 draw with Southampton in the Premier League 2 on Sunday afternoon and the striker is now likely to be available for first team duty in the South West on Saturday.

The frontman joined Boro in January in a reported £6 million deal from Aston Villa. Gestede has struggled to impress on Teesside with the player scoring just three goals in 25 outings for Middlesbrough. The player is clearly rated by Boro boss Garry Monk with Gestede having featured in all six of the club’s fixtures in league and cup this season prior to his injury.

Gestede made his name at Blackburn Rovers where he scored 35 goals in 73 appearances. The player has failed to hit those goalscoring heights with any of the other three clubs which he has represented prior to his move to the North East.
