New Sunderland manager Chris Coleman has suffered defeat in his first match in charge with The Black Cats falling to a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa at Villa Park on Tuesday evening.
Goals from Albert Adomah and Josh Onomah gave Villa a 2-0 lead and despite Lewis Grabban reducing the arrears with 18 minutes remaining, it proved to be too little, too late to rescue a point for the Wearsiders.
Sunderland dominated possession in the match but were unable to test home keeper Sam Johnstone on more than a couple of occasions. After the match, fans took to Twitter to give their views on the result.
Seven players injured and we didn't get walked all over and even controlled the game for big parts. Was good to see us play football for a change. #SAFC

Not a bad performance that. Plenty to be positive about. Smash Burton this Saturday and we can start getting the passports out imo #safc

Much better then recent weeks. Dodgy deflection too. #SAFC

We’re bottom, Villa are 4th, but there is certainly not that much difference between the two sides based on that performance. Still not a win but the signs of potential improvement are there 👍🏻 #SAFC

Disappointing, never expected to get anything but think we were slightly unfortunate not to get a point. Hopefully have a few players bk for Saturday, when it really starts. From what i saw thought Honeyman looked decent and Asoro when he came on looked bright. #safc

Chris Coleman is on to a hiding to nothing with this squad if us Sunderland fans are being honest? He isn't the best coach in the world but even if he was what difference would it make to the amateur abilities of the players we have on offer? #safc

Coleman has had a bad hand to deal with tonight however impressed me with his changes. Performance was poor again mind players being lazy wanting ball too deep and giving it away far too easy. Give him a few days to work with players he will get it right 🤞🤞🤞 #safc
