Derby County, Bristol City and Hull City weighing up moves for Birmingham City star

Championship trio Derby County, Bristol City and Hull City are all weighing up moves for Birmingham City midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld in January, according to HITC Sport.

Derby County thought they had signed Kieftenbeld on deadline day in the summer but a move fell through after the Football League refused to sanction the agreed transfer. Derby are being linked with another move for him, along with Bristol City and Hull City.

Kieftenbeld, 27, started his career with FC Twente before moving to Go Ahead Eagles in 2008. In 2010 he was signed by FC Groningen, where he spent 5 years and made over 150 appearances. He was brought to England by former Birmingham boss Gary Rowett in 2015, who now wants to sign him for Derby County.

Bristol City are another club interested in Kieftenbeld. The Robins have made a great start to the season and are currently fourth in the Championship under Lee Johnson. They will be looking for reinforcements in January as they look to push on in the Play-Offs.

Hull City are also being linked. The Tigers were relegated from the Premier League last season under Marco Silva and have struggled in the Championship so far this season under former CSKA Moscow and Russia manager Leonid Slutsky. They are 20th in the table and may try and sign Kieftenbeld to tighten up their midfield.

Derby County, Bristol City and Hull City are all big clubs which shows the talent Kieftenbeld possesses at Championship level. It will be interesting to see where he ends up during the window.
