Villa youngster Davis repaying Bruce’s faith

Young striker Keinan Davis has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Championship side Aston Villa

The former Biggleswade player has extended his stay at Villa Park until 2020 with this new deal.

Since making his Villa debut in last season’s FA Cup, Davis has made a big impact and has already scored twice this season.

Both of the striker’s senior goals have come away from home, both at Barnsley and Burton, but he is yet to score at home.

‘This is another milestone for me’ said the player. ‘It’s a great feeling to have signed a new contract’.

Steve Bruce has shown faith in the player this season and, after seven substitute appearances last term, made his full debut in an impressive showing against Norwich in August.

With the player’s form more than justifying his run in the first team, Steve Bruce’s faith in youth has paid dividends again. ‘There’s nothing quite like when a young one comes through for you’ he said, recalling Jordan Henderson and Darren Carter, players who both came through the ranks at Sunderland under his leadership.

‘It was just at the right time when I threw him in. Some would say it was a calculated gamble. but he came in and, straightaway against Norwich, he lifted the whole atmosphere in the stadium’.

‘He lifted the whole spirit of the place, from a negative to a positive’.

As recently as 2015, Davis was playing for non-league side Biggleswade United after his release from the Stevenage FC academy, and his rise through the Villa ranks is testament to his hard work and ability.

Villa boss Steve Bruce said ‘he’s known rejection and he’s come through. He’s a quiet lad who’s grasped the opportunity and he’s doing everything right at the moment’.
