Leeds United fans react and comment on Alioski pin-point assist

If Leeds United fans are to be truthful, not many (if any) had heard of Macedonian winger-cum-forward Ezgjan Alioski before it became apparent that the Whites were chasing his summer signature.

The £2.25 million arrival from Swiss side FC Lugano was what one could call an ‘unknown quantity’. He was certainly that before his arrival, and is only just now becoming more familiar to Leeds United fans.

What was known of him before his arrival in West Yorkshire, was either gleaned from the combination of a quick Google search and a look at YouTube highlight videos. What fans would have from this duo of sources is that last season for Lugano the 25-year-old had a standout season in the Swiss Super League.

His 2016/17 campaign brought him eye-watering headline figures of 16 goals and 14 assists – seven of these goals coming in the first nine games of the campaign and a hat-trick (vs FC Sion) in the latter part of the season.

He hasn’t captured that exact red-hot form for Leeds United as of this stage of the season, although there have been glimpses of promise and potential. So far this season, ‘Gianni’ Alioski has scored twice (against Nottingham Forest and Brentford) and has laid on two assists for teammates.

What has got Leeds fans talking at the moment, during yet another international break, is the pin-point assist (below) that he made tonight to help put Macedonia 1-0 up against Norway.

Peeling off to the left, Alioski receives a pass from Goran Pandev – the pass played from midfield. The Leeds United winger moves up the left, then cuts inside the defender. An almost telepathic knowledge-link between Alioski and Pandev is then evident as the former dinks a pass into space between defenders and into the area for Pandev to steer home the opening goal for the Red Lynxes.

As Leeds United sit in an ever-deepening slump, fans will be hoping that winger Alioski finds the form he displays on an international level and brings it to England’s second-tier competition when football resumes next week.
