Sunderland have not approached former Middlesbrough manager

Sunderland have not made any contact with Aitor Karanka about him being their next head coach according to a report from the Sunderland Echo.

If you are to believe the bookies, Karanka is going to be the man to take the Sunderland job. He is priced as the 4/7 favourite with Sky Bet and already knows the region from his time with Middlesbrough when he got them promoted from the Sky Bet Championship. It would be seen as a positive appointment as well considering the crisis that Sunderland are in after the Simon Grayson reign left them in the relegation zone of the Championship.

But even though some fans thought he might be heading to Sunderland after Karanka posted a cryptic tweet from King’s Cross station in London, this report says there has been no contact between the club and the man. This means that any hope that he will be quickly put into the hot seat at the Stadium of Light will have to be put on rest for now as the EFL wonders where Karanka will be heading next.

It remains to be seen whether or not Karanka would want the job at Sunderland. While it is a massive club and he does still have a base in the region, there are many problems at the club which has resulted in a double relegation becoming a serious possibility. Whether Karanka would want to risk his reputation at a club where things could go disastrously wrong remains to be seen.
