Nigel Clough happy that Burton Albion are getting a break

Burton Albion head coach Nigel Clough has told the Burton Mail that he is happy that his team are getting a break this week.

The Brewers have had a tough start to the season as they embark on their second year in the Sky Bet Championship and have been doing exactly that they wanted to do as they are just above the relegation zone in 21st place. But this weekend, there is no match due to the international break, something that leaves many fans bored as they have to watch England on the TV if they want their football fix.

But while you can expect Burton fans to be moaning as they look for something to do with their Saturday afternoon, Clough is happy to get the break. He has said it is a good time to reflect on the season so far so he can make changes for the rest of the season and make sure the club end up staying in the division.

He said: “You don’t get time during the season,”

“When you’re playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, all you’re doing is preparing for the game, analysing the game and then preparing for the next one.”

“And you don’t get any time to take a step back which we can use this week – and say well, let’s look over the first 16 games – we’re over a third of the season now, who’s done well?”

“Although the three centre-halves, we changed that on Saturday – that wasn’t the reason we were losing games though”.

“It (the break) does give us a chance to look at people who are out of the picture as well.”
