NEWS: Aston Villa to make big money man available for transfer

Aston Villa are set to make striker Scott Hogan available for transfer in the January window, according to a report by the Sun on Sunday‘s printed edition.

Hogan has failed to hit the ground running for Villa since his £15m move from Brentford in January. He has scored just 1 Championship goal in 25 appearances and has not lived up to his hefty price tag.

This season, Hogan has been pushed down the pecking order at Villa Park. The return of star striker Jonathan Kodjia, emergence of youngster Keinan Davis and loan signing of Josh Onomah has restricted Hogan to short cameos from the bench.

The 25-year-old had numerous spells in Non League football before his arrival on the professional scene. In the summer of 2013 Hogan joined League two side Rochdale on a two-year deal.

Hogan became a key man for Rochdale and scored 19 goals to help Dale to automatic promotion to League One. He was named in the team of the season and was also nominated for the league’s player of the year award.

Following his impressive form, Championship side Brentford snapped him up for £750k. Before he was able to establish himself in the first team, Hogan suffered a severe ankle injury which ruled him out for the majority of the 2014/15 season.

On his league debut he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, just 15 minutes after coming on as a substitute. At the end of the 2015/16 season, Hogan finally had a spell in the team where he scored 7 goals in 7 games.

He carried on his goalscoring form into the next season, where he fired in 13 goals in 18 league appearances. His form caught the eye of Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce, and the Villains forked out £15m for his signature.

However he has failed to reach the heights of his Brentford days and it seems he could be on the move once again.
