MATCH PREVIEW: Leeds United vs Derby County

Leeds United host Derby County at Elland Road on Saturday, with the Rams looking to climb above their opponents into a play off position.

Leeds currently sit in 5th place on 23 points in the Championship table after 14 games. Meanwhile, Derby are currently two places behind the Whites on 22 points. They do, however, have a game in hand having only played 13 games.

FORM

Leeds are currently enduring a barren run of form, having lost 5 of their last 7 games in the league. After winning 3 and drawing 2 of their first 5 home games, United have lost their last 2 at Elland Road to Reading (0-1) and Sheffield United (1-2) and will be looking to make their home a fortress again.

Contrastingly, Derby are unbeaten in their last 6 league games, including winning their last three games. Their recent resurgence has seen them climb into a position just outside of the play offs, and a win on Tuesday would ensure a place in the top six come the end of the midweek round of fixtures.

TEAM NEWS

Left back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (ankle) and striker Caleb Ekuban (foot) remain sidelined, with the latter recently returning to training after a 2 month lay off. Captain Liam Cooper is also out after limping off injured with a dead leg in the defeat to Sheffield United.  Gaetano Berardi serves the final game of his three game ban, whilst Kalvin Phillips is also suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the season.

Derby have no new injury concerns going into the game at Elland Road. Winger Jonny Russell is the only man to miss the clash with the Whites with an ongoing groin problem. Manager Gary Rowett is expected to name an unchanged side from the one which were victorious at Carrow Road. (BBC SPORT)

HEAD TO HEAD

Since their first meeting in March 1922, the sides have faced off with each other 117 times. Leeds have the better record, winning 54 times compared to Derby’s 36 victories. United won the previous meeting back in January with a dominant 1-0 victory. (11v11)

PREDICTION

It should be an entertaining encounter under the Elland Road lights on Tuesday. Both sides boast an array of attacking talent and I can’t split them.
