High flying Blades looking to continue hold over Leeds United

The Sky Bet Championship’s surprise package Sheffield United will be looking to continue their good recent record against bitter rivals Leeds United when the two sides meet at Elland Road on Friday evening.

A flying start to the season has seen The Blades rise to third in the league table while a first win in four matches for Leeds United at Bristol City last weekend has helped Thomas Christiansen’s side move back up to fourth.

Sheffield United make the short trip across Yorkshire with a good recent record against Leeds United and The Blades will be looking to continue that run in the two sides’ latest meeting. The Bramall Lane based club have lost on just one of their last nine meetings with The Whites with that defeat coming last time the two sides met at Elland Road in September 2010 when Bradley Johnson netted the only goal of the match for the home side.

Prior to that loss, The Blades have not suffered defeat to Leeds United since September 1993 when Gary McAllister and Gordon Strachan fired The Whites to a 2-1 victory over the South Yorkshire club in a Premier League fixture.

Sheffield United’s biggest win over Leeds United at Elland Road came in April 2005 when they battered The Whites 4-0. Danny Webber, Nick Montgomery and Andy Gray (two) got the goals that day and that victory remains The Blades’ last on Leeds United’s own patch although they will be looking to write another chapter in derby day history on Friday evening.
