Leeds United star pens new five-year deal

Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has signed a new five-year deal, according to their official website.

The Swedish defender is a popular figure with the Whites and he has committed his future to the Elland Road club.

Jansson joins a number of players from Thomas Christiansen’s squad to commit their future to Leeds such as Eunan O’Kane, Stuart Dallas, Kalvin Phillips, Gaetano Berardi, Ronaldo Vieira, Conor Shaughnessy, Liam Cooper and Luke Ayling. All these players have signed new long-term contracts with the club as they aim to reach the Premier League.

Jansson started his career with Malmo in Sweden and was with them for six years, playing just under one hundred games. He then moved to Italian side Torino in 2014. However, in the 2014/15 season he only played nine games. He found it very hard to break into their first-team and the season after he only played seven.

The 26 year-old became available for loan by Torino and Leeds United swooped for in the summer of 2016. He joined initially on loan for a season-long loan but the Whites made it permanent at the end of the season. He became a key part of the Leeds United squad who narrowly missed out on the Championship Play-Offs last season. They finished 7th under Garry Monk.

Leeds fans will no doubt be very happy with the news that Pontus Jansson has penned a new deal. They hope he can be key player for them once again as they look to take the step into the top flight this season under Thomas Christiansen.
