Sheffield Wednesday player ratings v Derby County

A spirited performance from the ten man Owls saw them fall to a second successive defeat.

Goals from Matej Vydra and Bradley Johnson gave Derby the three points.

Here’s how I rated the Owls players:

Keiren Westwood- 8

Made some crucial saves that kept Wednesday in the game until late on. Got a hand to Bradley Johnson’s strike but it was too powerful.

Jack Hunt- 6

Struggled to take on a man today (not helped by the red card) and dig deep defensively.

Tom Lees- 7

Kept David Nugent quiet and battled hard all game. Helped out Morgan Fox who was his makeshift partner at centre back.

Glenn Loovens- 1

Supposed to be captain and experienced head, not today. Sent off after four minutes.

Morgan Fox- 6

Did ok filling in at centre back. Needs to start more consistently to make an impact on the team.

Ross Wallace- 6

Had a quiet game, but was defending for most of the game. Had a shot but went well over.

Kieran Lee- 6

Energetic as always. Lack of forward options stifled his creativity.

Barry Bannan- 7

Tried to make things happen. Had a couple of shots that worries Scott Carson. Battled hard against more physical Joe Ledley and Tom Huddlestone.

Adam Reach- 6

Not a left-back and when finally get pushed on as a winger, the sending off means he has to go back into defence. struggled to take on a man, but if he lost the ball he had no cover for the counter attack.

Gary Hooper- 6

Ended up having to come deep to try and make things happen. Had a couple of half chances.

Steven Fletcher- 6

Battled hard but nothing came off for him. Probably should’ve had a penalty.

Substitutes:

Lucas Joao- 6

Put himself about and won a couple of attacking fouls.

Marco Matias- N/A

Not on the pitch for long. Hardly touched the ball.
