Match Preview: Derby County v Sheffield Wednesday

Derby are looking for back-to-back wins, following Sunday’s 2-0 win against Forest, whereas Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to bounce back from a humiliating defeat at Bolton.

Form

Derby are unbeaten in four matches, but three of them were draws. Derby have only won back-to-back games once this season, so Gary Rowett will be looking for more consistency from his side as they look to climb the table.

Sheffield Wednesday have lost three of their last four and have been up and down all season. The Owls have had too many off days this season and now some of the fans are wanting a change of manager. That doesn’t look like happening soon, so Carlos Carvalhal and his players need to put in a performance to please the Owls following.

Team News

Bradley Johnson returns from suspension and Captain Richard Keogh should recover  from a slight knock. Darren Bent (hamstring) and Mason Bennett (knee) are still out.

Jordan Rhodes is a doubt for the game after picking up an ankle injury v Bolton. Glenn Loovens could make the squad, but Keiren Westwood is still a doubt with a rib injury. George Boyd (shoulder) and Fernando Forestieri (knee) are long-term injuries.

Head-to-Head

Overall Derby lead the head-to-head with 50 victories. Wednesday have won on 43 occasions with 38 being drawn.

Before a 2-1 victory over Derby in April, Wednesday hadn’t beaten Derby since April 2006, which is the last time they were victorious at Pride Park. Wednesday will be looking to break this streak.

Prediction

I think this will be an entertaining game, as these game usually are, with both teams having to settle for a point.
