Leeds United and Reading to battle it out for Manchester United striker

Leeds United and Reading are both interested in a January move for Manchester United striker James Wilson, according to The Sun.

The 21 year-old has been out with a long-term serious knee injury that he sustained on loan at Derby County last season. He has not played for Manchester United since and Championship duo Leeds and Reading want to sign him in January.

Wilson burst onto the scene at old Trafford, scoring twice on his Premier League debut against Hull City at the age of 18. However, he has only gone onto score one more goal for the first-team. During his time with United he has featured for England at U16, U19, U20 and U21 level.

Wilson got his first taste of first team football on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion for the second half of the 2015/16 season. Under Chris Hughton, Wilson scored 5 goals in 25 appearances but many came from him coming off the bench. The Seagulls narrowly missed out on promotion in that season but went up the year later. Wilson decided to join their rivals Derby County on loan for the 2016/17 season but only featured on 4 occasions before sustaining an injury which meant he had to return to Manchester United.

Joining Reading or Leeds United are two good opportunities for James Wilson. It is still unclear whether they would be permanent or loan moves. The two clubs are expected to be busy in the January transfer market as they look to bolster their ranks for the remainder of the Championship season.
