Aston Villa plot move for Aberdeen goalkeeper

Aston Villa are plotting to make a move to sign Aberdeen’s Joe Lewis according to a report from the Scottish Sun.

While the Villains currently have Sam Johnstone as their number one, he is only at the club on loan from Manchester United and he can’t be relied upon to be a long term solution to their goalkeeping problems. And so the West Midlands club have started to look for another goalkeeper who can be their number one for the next few years and have seemingly found one north of the border.

Lewis is well-known in the EFL having played for the likes of Peterborough United and Cardiff City and while he was always seen as a solid shot stopper here, he has excelled ever since moving to Scotland to play for Aberdeen. He has been brilliant for the Dons ever since signing for them and he was even named in the PFA Scotland Premiership Team of the Year, beating out Celtic’s Craig Gordon.

However the trickiness for Aston Villa trying to sign Lewis would be the fact he recently signed a new contract with Aberdeen. After his great season last time out, he signed a long term deal which will keep him there until 2020. This means that Villa would likely have to pay big to make sure he becomes one of their players, something which might not be so appealing considering they have spent a lot of money on players which have not worked out for them yet. However for now, they are considering making a move for him and may make an offer in the January transfer window.
