Woman punches police horse following Bristol Rovers defeat

A female football fan is believed to have punched a police horse following Bristol Rovers’ 1-0 defeat to Oxford United at The Memorial Stadium in Sky Bet League One on Saturday afternoon according to The Bristol Post.

The Pirates were defeated after conceding the match’s only goal late on when former Leeds United youngster Alex Mowatt struck for the visitors.

Reports have emerged that after the match, a brawl between both sets of supporters took place outside The Wellington Pub on Gloucester Road. The incident is said to have involved around 50 people with one woman thought to have thrown a punch at a police horse before trying to pull the mounted police officer to the ground.

The brawl is believed to have been dealt with quickly by police however an investigation into the incident is now expected to take place.

The woman who attacked the police horse is not believed to have been arrested and it has not been confirmed whether she was a home of visiting supporter.

A total of 9,656 attended the match at The Memorial Stadium including a near sell-out away following from Oxford. The match was a bad tempered affair with referee Ross Joyce issuing seven yellow cards across the two teams.
