Brentford B team captain Zain Westbrooke has joined National League side Leyton Orient, according to Brentford’s official website
Brentford B’s captain, Zain Westbrooke, has signed for Leyton Orient on loan until 10 January 2018. The deal gives the bees the option to recall the midfielder after 28 days, and Westbrooke will be allowed to feature for the O’s in FA Cup matches, as well as in the National League.
Leyton Orient, who only three years ago were battling with Brentford for promotion to the Championship, currently sit seventeenth in the National League, and Westbrooke is available for selection as they travel to Dagenham and Redbridge in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round this Saturday.
This will be Westbrooke’s second loan move this season, a brief spell at Solihull Moors was cut short when the midfielder was sent off during in only his second game for the moors. Solihull opted to bring in other loan signings to replace Westbrooke during his suspension, meaning they had filled their loan quota so could not extend his loan.
Westbrooke made his first-team debut for Brentford during the bees’ 1-1 draw away at local rivals Fulham in the penultimate game of last season. He also captains Brentford’s B team and has scored three times in eleven appearances so far this season.
Head of Football Operations at Brentford, Robert Rowan, told the official club website: “I’m really happy for Zain that he’s got another opportunity to impress on loan. He’s worked hard over the last fourteen months and has impressed the staff with his application and ability. Now he needs to impress the staff and fans of Leyton Orient. I look forward to watching him over the next three months with our scouting department and tracking his progress in some important fixtures for Leyton Orient.”
