Aston Villa fans react as club said interested in Germany-based Colombian striker

Sitting on the skirts of the play-off picture, after four consecutive Sky Bet Championship victories, Aston Villa are a team not content to sit on their laurels according to journalist Alan Nixon (tweet – below).

Villa’s goal rush, ten in their last four league games, is largely due to midfielders such as Conor Hourihane (five goals) and Albert Adomah (four goals), but the Villans are said to be looking at FC Köln striker Jhon Córdoba.

Cordoba

The 24-year-old, currently out with a hamstring injury, only moved to his current club Köln at the opening of this summer’s transfer window for a fee of £15.5 million. In 10 games this season for the 1.Bundesliga side, Córdoba has scored twice – this coming after 59 games and 13 goals for former side FSV Mainz 05.

The 11-cap, six-goal Colombia Under-20 international came in to European football when transferring from Mexican side Chiapas FC (19 games – one goal) after a move from his native Colombia and first side Envigado (33 appearances – 11 goals).

The interest by Villa, as stated by Nixon (above) will likely have taken into account not only his goal-scoring record but also the top-league experience that he will bring with him, despite his tender years.

Already Córdoba has 58 games worth of experience in the 1.Bundesliga with Mainz and Köln and 54 appearances in Spain’s La Liga competition with RCD Espanyol and Granada CF.

Should Colombian youngster Córdoba see ‘interest’ firmed up into a bid for his services, he will join a front-line at the Midlands club that includes ‘veteran’ Gabriel Agbonlahor and exciting Ivorian Jonathan Kodija. Writing in the Sun, Nixon mentions the move of Villa striker Ross McCormack to A-League side Melbourne and says that 24-year-old Córdoba is “on the shortlist to fill that spot [vacated by McCormack].”
