Bristol City, Bristol City boss Johnson no longer a Rockin’ Robin

Bristol City boss Johnson no longer a Rockin’ Robin

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson is proving his doubters wrong by overseeing an impressive start to the season from his side.

The 36-year-old boss, who is one of the youngest in the Sky Bet Championship was the target of wide scale criticism from the club’s supporters as Bristol City tumbled down the table last term following a bright start to the 2016/2017 campaign but The Robins are enjoying brighter fortunes this time around.

Despite calls for Johnson’s sacking in spring, Bristol City owner Steve Lansdown kept faith with his young manager and his decision not to pull the trigger is now paying dividends at Ashton Gate.

Under Johnson’s guidance, The Robins find themselves in fourth position in the Sky Bet Championship table after collecting 20 points from just 11 league fixtures. Bristol City are unbeaten in their last 11 outings in all competitions dating back to the second league match of the season when they lost 2-1 at Birmingham City, a result which remains their only defeat to date.

The club’s recent excellent form has seen their once under-fire manager nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award for September.

The city of Bristol is yet to host English Premier League football but Robins boss Johnson can handle both pressure and expectancy and given his side’s revival this season, there is no reason why they will not be in the promotion mix come May.
