Aston Villa defender set for £8.9 million move away from Villa Park

Aston Villa full-back Jordan Amavi will be able to make his move to French club Marseille, who he is currently on loan at, in January for a fee of £8.9 million, as per an article by talkSPORT.

The Frenchman joined Aston Villa in 2015 from Ligue 1 side Nice. He played 44 games in his 2 seasons with the Midlands club before returning to France to join Marseille on loan.

Aston Villa apparently turned down a bid from an unnamed Chinese club for 23 year-old Amavi in December 2016. This was when they were in the Championship too. Marseille were also keen on him last winter but Villa managed to keep hold of him until the summer, when he finally left.

The news that he is set for a permanent move away will not surprise Villa fans. He has been linked with moves away ever since the club were relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2015/16 season.

Steve Bruce was under a lot of pressure at the start of this season after a tough spell for the club. However, in Septmeber Villa have gone 6 games unbeaten with 4 wins and 2 draws. This has taken the weight of Bruce’s shoulders somewhat. He and his goalkeeper, Sam Johnstone, have both been nominated for the Manager and Player of the Month awards.

Aston Villa have turned a corner and will look to push for promotion now. However, they will have to do this without Jordan Amavi who is set to leave the club on a permanent basis to join Marseille.
