Premier League big guns target Middlesbrough star

Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Manchester United are tracking Middlesbrough’s 20-year-old centre-back Dael Fry, according to a report from the Mail Online.

The report also states that Everton and Leicester are amongst other clubs who hold a keen interest in the young Englishman.

Fry made his first, first team appearance at the age of 17 on the opening day of the 2015/16 season against Preston North End. He put in a man of the match display in a game which ended 0-0.

This season, he has excelled since the arrival of new boss Garry Monk, making nine Championship appearances, as well as a further two in the Carabao Cup.

His impressive performances have earned him a call up to the England u21 side for the upcoming games against Scotland and Andorra. Despite, this Fry was dropped for Boro’s last game against Brentford, a game in which they could only manage a 2-2 draw.

Fry spent half of last season on loan at the Championship’s bottom club Rotherham United. He made just ten appearances for the Millers after having his loan spell cut short, with him not featuring for the club after November.

Fry has represented England at every level from the under 17s up to the under 20s. In 2014, the centre back was a member of the u17s side which won the European Championships by beating Netherlands 4-1 on penalties in the final. He was also apart of the u20s squad which won the World Cup this summer but didn’t start in any of the matches.

Prior to joining Rotherham in 2016, Fry signed a new 5-year deal at Boro keeping him at the club till 2021. This means that they will be able to command a large transfer fee should the big boys come calling.
