Birmingham City weighing up move for Buddies youngster

Sky Bet Championship club Birmingham City are understood to be weighing up a move for St Mirren midfielder Lewis Morgan according to the Daily Record.

The 21-year-old Greenock born midfield ace has starred for his club this season as The Buddies have risen to the top of the Scottish Championship table.

Scouts are regularly travelling to St Mirren Park to watch the player in action and it has been reported that Birmingham City are one of those clubs which have sent representatives to monitor Morgan’s progress. The Blues could opt to make a move for the youngster in January with new manager Steve Cotterill set to be backed by the club’s owners in the upcoming transfer window.

Birmingham City could face some stern competition for the player’s services in the form of Glasgow giants Celtic and Rangers. The Old Firm rivals are also said to be watching Morgan and could go into battle for the youngster’s signature.

Morgan did spend time as a schoolboy with Rangers before joining current club St Mirren in September 2013. The player made his first team debut one year later and has gone on to make 89 appearances for the club, scoring 19 goals.

The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and could be snapped up for a relatively small transfer fee.
