Aston Villa must avoid sliding back on Bolton Wanderers banana skin

Aston Villa’s good work on the pitch in recent weeks will face a huge test this afternoon when Bolton Wanderers are the visitors to Villa Park.

A run of three consecutive wins in the Sky Bet Championship have helped lift the mounting pressure on manager Steve Bruce but a real banana skin will be presented to Villa this afternoon when winless Bolton Wanderers arrive in B6.

After working so hard to get back on track, defeat to struggling Wanderers would provide Villa with a real setback and it is vitally important that the club continue to pick up points against the lesser sides in the division if they are serious about mounting a push for promotion.

Villa should not fear falling to defeat to Bolton Wanderers with the club having lost only twice in the league to date. High flying Cardiff City beat Bruce’s men 3-0 at The Cardiff City Stadium last month while Villa’s only other defeat came against Reading, a side that reached the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final last term.

Nine of Villa’s 16 points accrued in the league so far this season have come at Villa Park and making their spiritual home a fortress is key to their potential success this season. Opponents Bolton Wanderers will secure their first win of the season at some point but Villa need to make sure that they do not become The Trotters’ maiden scalp.
