Former Reading and Wolves goal ace calls it a day

Former Reading and Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Kevin Doyle has announced his retirement from the game at the age of 34 according to Sky Sports sources.

The Adamstown born goal machine was playing his football in the United States with Colorado Rapids however Doyle has made the decision to end his playing days following advice from doctors with the player having recently suffered from concussion on more than one occasion.

Doyle made his name with Reading who he joined from Irish club Cork City in a reported £78,000 deal in summer 2005. The frontman went on to net 56 goals in 163 appearances for The Royals, helping the club to promotion to the top flight of English football in his first season with the club. The player was named in the 2005/2006 PFA Championship Team of the Year while he was also the Reading Player of the Year that season.

In June 2009, Wolverhampton Wanderers signed Doyle for a transfer fee of around £6.5 million and the player bagged 33 goals in 179 appearances during his time at Molineux.

Doyle joined Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids on 1 July 2015 and the forward played a key role for the Western Conference outfit prior to announcing his retirement.

It is not yet known whether the player will look to remain in the game in some capacity in the future.
