New names appear in the running for the Birmingham City job

Birmingham City’s search for a new manager continues as some new names have been thrown into the hat. The Blues are still looking for a replacement for Harry Redknapp, as per an article by the Birmingham Mail.

Lee Carsley is currently in temporary charge of the club. Steve Cotterill is still the bookies favourite to land the job and Aitor Karanka along with Steve McClaren are still in contention. However, some new names have appeared.

Former Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores, currently in charge of Spanish side Espanyol, has come out of nowhere to now be 12/1. The former Getafe, Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Al-Ahli and Benfica manager had one season with Watford in the Premier League for the 2015/16 season. Could the Birmingham job tempt him back to England?

Another name that has appeared is that of AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley, who is now an outsider at 25/1. The 45 year-old guided Wimbledon to promotion to League One in 2016. In addition, Luton Town manager Nathan Jones and Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs can also be found at 25/1 outsiders for the job.

It is believed the favourite Steve Cotterill is the one that most Birmingham fans want. He was part of Harry Redknapp’s coaching staff for his 3 games in charge last season and kept the Blues in the Championship. I also think that the prospect of appointing Quique Sanchez Flores is an exciting one for the fans, but nothing is set in stone yet. Lee Carsley will remain in temporary charge until a new manager is found.
