Blues Caretaker manager Lee Carsley is looking for his first win in charge and what would only be Birmingham’s second win of the season. On the other hand, the Owls will be looking to bounce back quickly following a humiliating defeat at home to city rivals United.
Form
Birmingham come into this game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Derby and have not won since 12th August, a run which cost Harry Redknapp his job.
Wednesday’s defeat on Sunday was their first since the opening day of the season. Their unbeaten run lasted for seven games, with three wins and four draws.
Team News
Lee Carsley has no new injury worries. David Stockdale (arm), Che Adams (hamstring), Jason Lowe (hamstring) and Jota (hamstring) are still sidelined.
Sam Hutchinson and Almen Abdi are back in full training and could feature. Glen Loovens is back training, but this game comes too early for him. George Boyd (shoulder) and Fernando Forestieri (knee) have long term injuries.
Head to Head
Birmingham have a slight advantage in the head to head having won 35 games. Wednesday have won 34 with 24 being draws.
Last season each team had a win a piece. Birmingham won 2-1 at St Andrews and the Owls won 3-0 at Hillsborough.
Prediction
This is a vital game for both teams. Lee Carsley will be hoping home advantage and Wednesday’s previous performance will help his side get the three points, but I think Wednesday are made of stronger stuff and will come away with a point.
