Leeds United had been riding the crest of a wave before last Saturday at Millwall, seven unbeaten games lifting them to the head of the table. Millwall inflicted a humbling defeat in many ways, but results elsewhere saw the Whites remain in first place.
Last Saturday was last Saturday but it was a performance again the Lions that fans will not want many more of this season. Toothless was one word to describe it, outfought and outplayed were two more as a clinical performance by Millwall saw Leeds fall to a 1-0 defeat.
However, the first steps to shaking off that defeat came Tuesday just gone, as Leeds United’s largely ‘fringe’ squad put out a decent Burnley side in the Carabao Cup. It was a game where endeavour and hard work showed that a gulf in divisions doesn’t necessarily equal a gulf in class, Leeds winning the game 5-3 in the ABBA-style penalty shoot-out after a 2-2 Extra Time draw.
Today Leeds United’s more established first-team side get a chance to wipe away even more of the Millwall defeat as the Whites entertain visitors Ipswich at what is a sold-out Elland Road. Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich side arrive sporting 15 points from five wins and two losses and sit in 5th place in the table, four spots behind their hosts.

Leeds United fans react to starting XI vs Ipswich
With no Pontus Jansson making the line-up, nor even the matchday 18, that is one point that Leeds United fans will likely pick up on. The impressive youngster Connor Shaughnessy comes into the side, the former Reading midfield prospect showing impressive form of late as a centre-back. There is a welcome return to the bench for Everton loanee Matthew Pennington, a player many fans are expecting to see big things from.
Jansson injured?

Some bench compared to last season

I think starting shaughnessy is a bit risky but if he plays like he has been doing good luck to him

STOP TELLING US EVERYONE IS FIT AND THEN HAVE AN INJURED PLAYER😭

No Vieira again.

Rather have Cibicki on the bench than Grot

I’d pay roofe instead of Lasogga think he’d worry Ipswich more but I’m nitpicking #lufc

Not bad using Shaughnessy, we really do need Jansson 100% fit for Cardiff and Wednesday. Attack looks perfect

Decent team would prefer Berardi to Anita #lufc
